Hockey News Playoffs
- The Hockey News, commonly abbreviated to THN, is a North American ice hockey magazine published by Transcontinental. The Hockey News was founded in 1947 by Ken McKenzie and Bill Cote, and has since been perhaps the most recognized hockey publication in North America.

Politics, Flooding and Poison Ivy
As I was listening to the news coverage this week, everything sounded familiar. I began reflecting on my youth in Manitoba. It was the 1960's. The Canadian dollar was above parity with the US dollar, then 2 years later it was pegged at below parity (to some, the world was coming to an end and someone in the Winnipeg Free Press created the Diefenbuck!), the Red River was threatening to flood Winnipeg (an annual event but sometimes more serious) and Poison Ivy and mosquitoes were about to launch another attack on my sensitive skin.
Now, 50 years later I'm sitting listening to the news: Canada is getting ready for another election; the Canadian dollar is above parity; Winnipeg is preparing for more floodwaters (could be pretty serious again this year); and I'm advising people to watch out for Poison Ivy. Someone even mentioned that the world might be coming to an end (again)!.
The Winnipeg mosquitoes will have to fend for themselves! It's hockey playoff-time in Canada!

So I finally decided to upload a picture! IT'S PLAYOFF TIME! CATCH THE FEVER! Notice how the Vancouver media puts the Canucks first playoff game at a higher priority than the tragic hit and run accident of a 4 year old boy. Crazy? Us? Nawww.....
(I would like to talk this space to embarrass the people who's home teams did NOT make the playoffs (Toronto) or did NOT clinch the Northwest (Calgary)...harsh words but they had to be said.
